GAMING - As is tradition, the World Series of Poker, the organization behind the biggest poker events on the planet, has revealed the dates and locations of its most prestigious series. In 2025, the 56th annual WSOP will take place from May 27 to July 16 in its usual home, Las Vegas.
Following the purchase of the brand earlier in the year, some suspected that the Caesars casinos would no longer be hosting the massive event. To the contrary, Caesars casinos will continue to host the WSOP Main Event over the next 20 years as a part of what was a $500 million deal.
The overall information was largely what most in poker circles would have been expecting. What the rest of the world of poker players wants to know is where its other series and events will be taking place. Last year, Los Angeles put on several hit events and will hopefully do so again in 2025.
A Grand Year of Poker in Los Angeles
Whilst commercial-style gaming is not permitted, card rooms are allowed to run throughout the state, meaning Los Angeles has always offered a unique market for card gaming and poker. There’s even a World Series of Art Poker held in the city annually. Recognizing this, the World Series of Poker has made plenty of stops to the City of Angels.
Card gaming is part of the culture of California, with its roots set centuries back. Now, people across the state can join card rooms for some novel games, and many look to the online space to play. There’s a grand range of real money poker apps and mobile sites available now, with many of the best apps offering bonuses to new players. Online offerings are now often very user-friendly in their design, and give their masses of players a diverse choice of games to try out, showing how their popularity has increased.
As you’d assume, the love of card games helps to buoy the WSOP events that come to the state. Last year, the 2023/24 WSOP Circuit came to Commerce Casino in LA, running a whole host of events from May 10 to May 22, ending in the coveted Tournament of Champions, and another to kick of 2024/25 from November 13 to November 26 with a $1 million main event.
Will LA Get Even Grander Events in 2025?
In recent years, the fairly new Tournament of Champions has been held in the spiritual home of the World Series of Poker, Las Vegas. In 2024, bringing the major showdown to Los Angeles was a sign of a new and strong partnership between WSOP and Commerce, where previously, the Bicycle Club has hosted WSOP events.
While the World Series of Poker organizers have announced that more events are going to be added to evolve the overall offering even further in 2025, getting the Tournament of Champions back should be the aim for LA. That said, Mystery Millions, Senior’s Championship, and Millionaire Maker are returning and would fare well in the city.
For now, we know that the centerpiece of the WSOP calendar will be returning to Las Vegas in May 2025. The full schedule tends to come out in February or March, so we’ll have to wait to see how they plan to feature LA.
