Venice Secures 2028 Olympic Triathlon After Park's Push for Westside Spotlight

LA 2028 - Sean Silva, the Venice Deputy for Councilwoman Traci Park (CD-11) announced this evening that Venice will host the triathlon during the 2028 Summer Olympics during his presentation at the monthly board meeting of the VNC (Venice Neighborhood Council).

Silva, who noted the 2028 Olympics would be coming to the Westside and to Venice in particular in a serious way, urged the community to leverage and "maximize Venice on the world stage."

The triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event combining swimming, cycling and running by the contestants.

The official announcement was made today by the LA28 Olympic Games Organizing Committee will be relocated to Venice Beach, bringing the excitement of a swim, bike, and run to one of Southern California's most visited tourist locales.  Originally reserved for Long Beach, the switch to Venice promises a true beach-like setting for this 17-day international spectacular that should be a tourism boom for the local economy.

Los Angeles will be hosting the summer Olympic games for the third time. They were previously held in 1932 and 1984.

"We are super excited about the new venue,' said Antonio F. Arimany, President-elect of World Triathlon. Venice Beach offers a dynamic and energetic atmosphere that perfectly complements the spirit of triathlon. We are confident that this iconic location will provide an unforgettable experience for athletes, fans, and the global audience.'

LA28 has unveiled the most comprehensive look at the 2028 Olympic venue plan to date, following approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board last week. With this plan, LA28 is set to host the greatest collection of athletes in world-class venues across the region, showcasing all the best that Los Angeles has to offer.

Councilwoman Park, elected in 2022 formerly served on the LA council's Olympic Committee, but resigned in wake of the Pacific Palisades wildfire crisis where she has been diligent in managing and leading those recovery efforts.
