Camp Willow: A Summer Camp for Youth with ADHD, Learning Differences, and Social Anxiety Celebrates its Grand Opening July 2025

WELLNESS

WELLNESS - Nestled in the serene landscapes of Southern California, Camp Willow is a resident summer camp that stands as the first of its kind on the West Coast. Designed to empower children and teens ages 8-17 with moderate ADHD, learning differences, and social anxiety, Camp Willow offers a unique experience that blends adventure with meaningful support. Here, campers find a space where they can be themselves, make lasting friendships, and learn skills that will stay with them long after the summer ends.

With an "estimated 7 million (11.4%) U.S. children aged 3–17 diagnosed with ADHD"* the timing of Camp Willow is could not be better.  Inspired by the strength and adaptability of the willow tree, Camp Willow is built on the belief that every child deserves to be celebrated for who they are. A place that brings both adventure and support to kids who often feel like they must work harder just to "fit in". Camp Willow isn't about fitting in - it's about shining as you are!

"At Camp Willow, we understand that every child’s needs are different. Our programs are designed to provide a balance of fun, growth, and therapeutic support to meet those needs. From outdoor adventures and team-building activities to evidence-based practices on social skills and impulse control, each element of the camp experience is carefully crafted to help kids feel confident, connected and independent." stated Samantha Gunther, Co-Founder of Camp Willow.

One of the highlights of Camp Willow is its focus on nature and unplugging from technology. Campers immerse themselves in activities like hiking, swimming, archery, and exploring the outdoors, helping them cultivate mindfulness and a sense of calm. Additionally, Camp Willow has an animal-interaction experience, which allows kids to interact with farm animals, practice mindfulness, and develop a gentle awareness of their own energy, providing them with tools they can use in all areas of life.

Understanding that good nutrition is important to overall mental and physical well-being, Camp Willow provides farm-to-table meals that nourish and delight. Every meal is carefully prepared using fresh, local ingredients to give kids the energy they need for all their activities while minimizing sugar intake.

"Parents choose Camp Willow because it goes beyond the typical camp experience. Our team, which includes licensed social workers, and registered nurses work to create a safe, supportive environment where children can thrive. Here, campers aren’t just learning skills for the summer; they’re gaining tools for a lifetime. They build resilience, practice managing impulses, and gain social-emotional skills that can make a real difference in their daily lives." Ms. Gunther stated.

Camp Willow’s Unique Approach

What truly sets Camp Willow apart is its commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment tailored to the specific needs of its campers. Camp Willow integrates a strong therapeutic component to nurture the learning and well-being of its campers. Central to this initiative is the camp’s licensed social worker, who leads the Cabin Support Team—a group of trained college students specializing in supporting neurodivergent individuals. This team works closely with trained cabin counselors, providing guidance and fostering a compassionate, inclusive environment where youth can grow and thrive.

Parents are also part of the journey. Camp Willow offers an optional parent experience during the last two days of camp, where parents can join support groups and workshops that equip them with strategies to help their child flourish at home. This unique approach not only builds a bridge between the camp experience and everyday life but also strengthens the family’s connection, understanding and builds a supportive community.

For youth with ADHD, learning differences, and social anxiety, Camp Willow provides an unparalleled summer experience that is as enriching as it is fun.
