WELLNESS--You may be familiar with the term “Sound Bath” as it has become more and more popular, especially within the spiritual, yoga, and meditation communities. Although it has nothing to do with getting wet, many would liken it to being cleansed from the inside out.
I had the pleasure of attending one weeks ago. Ginaand Shanila’s sound bath at The Den Meditation was outstanding. I had been to others in the past, but this turned out to be something very special.
I was dealing with some work stresses due to a new job and an ongoing stiffness and pain in my neck that was lingering for months. I went in with no expectations but simply to support my friends Gina and Shanila, and to relax and let go.
The ladies used numerous unique sound instruments including crystal bowls, gongs, drums, rattles, and more creating the most magical journey that I have been on in some time. I was literally transcended into another realm…one that felt peaceful, transformative, and healing. I was immersed in gorgeous sound frequencies that touched the soul.
I knew a little bit about how sound can help us to get more centered but I have since learned that attending regular Sound Baths can actually do a lot more. This practice has been around for thousands of years and is finally making its way into mainstream culture.
Sound Baths have been shown to reduce stress and cortisol in the body, lower blood pressure, reduce fatigue, anxiety and depression, improve mood and sleep, increase mental focus, concentration, and motivation, improve energy, deepen spiritual connection, and as I learned, heal the body of physical pain too.
As I was driving home afterward, I realized that I no longer had the neck tension and discomfort that I was carrying. In fact, my neck is perfectly fine to this day. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
I have always believed that we can heal our body, mind, and spirit when we can charge our spiritual batteries regularly, do the inner work necessary, and learn to release fear, anger, and other toxic emotions. Making Sound Baths a regular part of our spiritual practice will not only help you to relax and let go, it may go over and above what you ever imagined possible. It may just fix whatever ails you in your body, mind, and your spirit.
