I was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in a special election to fill the vacated seat in Council District Six. In my first 16 months in office I have focused on tackling the fundamental local issues residents and neighborhoods in the Sixth District are facing:
- I prevented the issuance of a multi-million dollar city contract to a nuisance trash operator with a history of environmental violations, finally forcing them to respect the local community, and clean up their operation, and enclose the facility.
- I have dedicated funds from my office to increase graffiti and bulky item removal services, a major problem in our neighborhoods.
- Due to the over-concentration of illegal marijuana dispensaries in my district, we have been partnering closely with LAPD and the City Attorney's office to uphold Prop D compliance and close down over 60% of illegal facilities.
- Finally, with the help of LAPD, we have dedicated direct resources to the prostitution and human trafficking issue plaguing the District, and are really starting to see results.
With just 16 months in office we have really started moving forward, and I would like the opportunity to continue this critical work with another term.
