CityWatch Today: Surrender Donald

WORLD WATCH

GUEST COLUMN--The cretin in the White House is, as ever, hard at work. On Sunday, fresh from having colored the U.S. flag wrong in a botched attempt to make us either the Netherlands or Russia, he played golf after refusing to release a courteous, respectful, already drafted White House statement on the death of John McCain; always classy, he opted instead for a low mean tweet, accompanied by a picture of - wait for it - himself. (Photo above:The popular beltway bridge, whose view frames an Oz-like view of the Mormon temple and long bore the graffitied message "Surrender Dorothy," has been updated for the Trumpian times.)

After his golf game he returned to Twitter; by then,  several people had been killed in a mass shooting in Jacksonville, Florida, but he evidently forgot to mention them because he was so psyched to boast about his fictional approval numbers in a new poll showing what a popular guy he is and, like, the best human ever.

Inexplicably, his new missive was widely greeted by venomous responses calling him "toxic," "vile," "twisted," "evil," "pathetic," "deranged," "a sham of a life," "a petty, petty man," and "a fucking useless piece of shit." But anyhoo, he was real busy.

So are the Democrats. According to a spreadsheet reportedly making the rounds in D.C.'s anxious Republican circles and newly leaked to Axios, House Democrats are preparing to launch over 100 investigations of the Trump administration if and when they flip the House in the mid-terms. Over 50 include requests for subpoena power into multiple acts of malfeasance.

Both lists, which catalog requests the Dems have already made, cover subjects as boundless as Trump's abuses: his tax returns, family business dealings, firing of U.S. attorneys, dismissal of EPA scientists, loose talk of classified info at Mar-a-Lago, the Puerto Rico debacle, the sleazy dealings of Jared, Mnuchin et al, all the bogus perks and scams and scandals - probes long blocked by a GOP that may be about to hit a Blue Wave.

If so, Claude Taylor's Mad Dog PAC, which works to unseat Trump, offers a way forward with its latest message on a popular D.C. railroad bridge over the Beltway.

Funded by sales of Trump balloons, it urges, "Surrender Donald."
