GUEST COMMENTARY--Whew. The dominoes of Trump World, in which MAGA just became"My Attorney Got Arrested," are tumbling faster than you can say un-indicted co-conspirator. Because it can be tough to keep track of the latest escapades of the (albeit seriously inept) criminal enterprise that is our government, an update.
In the wake of Michael Cohen pleading guilty to eight felony charges - from tax fraud to campaign finance violations, including the porn slush fund - more salacious details of his finances emerged, like his Better-Call-Saul-flavored income from consulting on an assisted-living facility and the $30,000 he made for brokering the sale of one obscenely priced handbag.
Meanwhile, Trump - to whom Cohen was long "a fine person...who I have always liked & respected" - quickly, predictably and entirely without irony threw him under the bus; so did the owner of the National Enquirer, who gave prosecutors info about Cohen's payoffs to Trump's sexual victims as well as Trump's knowledge of them.
As Trump frantically parroted the inane talking points of his Fox handlers at another surreal "rally" where he whined about "elites" - "I have many much more beautiful homes than they do" - the hits kept coming.
New York investigators subpoenaed Cohen in their probe of the Trump Foundation's "persistently illegal conduct"; a former Watergate prosecutor said it's time to question "the legitimacy of this presidency"; the lawyer for Summer Zervos, a Trump sexual victim, is demanding new information in her defamation suit against Trump; wiseacre activists are projecting "Felons Welcome," "Guilty" and "Criminal" on Trump's D.C. Hotel; Lanny Davis, Cohen's lawyer, has been pummeled for setting up a "truth fund" for his "suffering" scumbag client said to be worth over $2 million - a move widely deemed "peak 2018" - that has nonetheless raised over $120,000 from anonymous donors and the purported likes of Richard Nixon, Bugs Bunny, Melania Trump, Stormy Daniels, Hillary Clinton's Left Hook, Vladimir Putin, #Ismellfear and Trump Is Phucked; and a new poll finds Mueller's approval rating up by 11 points. The poll was by Fox News.
