ALPERN AT LARGE - If the Muslim holidays of Eid al-Fitr (the end of the holy month of Ramadan) and Eid- al-Adha were cancelled and peaceful Muslims were being discriminated and terrorized, we would all have good reason to be outraged—well, ditto for Hanukkah, Mayor Bass!
“Phoning it in” about all violence being bad, and throwing it out there every few days, won’t do the trick, Mayor Bass.
Because your overall silence about the anti-Semitic mob that showed up during President Biden’s fundraising visit last Friday is just deafening, if not downright terrifying.
Because only one group of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is resorting to violence and vandalism, and only one side is being urged to abandon their doorway mezuzahs and Stars of David, and who are having to hide their Jewish identify in universities and in public.
Maybe we should follow the lead of Pennsylvania, whose Senator Fetterman (once decried by Republicans there but probably who’s gotten a lot of bipartisan support now) in his recognition that Hamas and its supporters are ultimately, logically, rationally, and obviously responsible for every Israeli and Palestinian death over the past three months.
So it’s goodbye, University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill, who resigned after overwhelming backlash after House Rep. Elise Stefanik and others gave her and the presidents of MIT and Harvard numerous opportunities to declare the threats of “pro-Palestinians” against Jews as off-limits with respect to “free speech”.
Meanwhile, if Massachusetts wants to condone hate speech, along with a new blatant and public antisemitism, that’s their business…but let’s hope that the government and university donors make them pay the price.
Because Harvard President Claudine Gay’s belated and pathetic apology won’t cut it to any moral human being with an ounce of integrity and common sense.
The rape of Israeli women by Hamas terrorists is horrible, as is the plight of imprisoned Iranian Woman’s Rights activist Narges Mohammadi.
“Me, Too”, anyone? What violation of women’s rights, health, and safety is OK with the Women’s Rights Movement, which appears to have gone straight and blatantly Left-Wing, after all?
President Biden is right about the reports of raping Israeli hostages being something that the world can’t look away from...
…and you are welcome to jump on board that “anti-rape” train, Mayor Bass.
And NO, the Israeli images showing Palestinian detainees in underwear to make sure there are no suicide vests or other hidden explosives, prior to the Israeli Defense Forces letting innocent men and teenage boys go is NOT the same as intentional rape of Hamas men against Israeli girls and women.
So, let’s just let Saturday Night Live and the Left make fun of Rep. Stefanik for giving the Presidents of Harvard, U. Of Penn, and MIT the opportunity to declare antisemitism and threats of violence (not just peaceful protests but intimidation and terrorism and violence) as off limits to “free speech”.
And YOU can also be silent and play both sides, Mayor Bass, while only one side is doing the vandalism and intimidation, with the other side is having to witness the canceling of Hanukkah both locally and throughout the nation and world, while wondering if their personal safety is now dangerously under threat.
And maybe YOU can reap the price (as will the rest of Los Angeles) while many voters conclude that maybe they should have voted for Rick Caruso for Mayor instead of YOU.
