ART FOR IMPACT: THE ART OF_ Auction at Bonhams Goes Live to Support Transgender and At-Promise Youth

LOS ANGELES

ART AUCTION — Art meets advocacy in this year’s THE ART OF_ Auction, officially launched online today at 1 PM through Bonhams, one of the world’s most respected fine art auction houses. Presented by Bonhams with title sponsor Sonoma Private Wealth, this inspiring fundraiser offers a carefully curated collection of fine art — all generously donated by artists and art collectors, with 100% of proceeds benefiting vulnerable youth across the country.

Unlike traditional auctions, THE ART OF_ is fueled by heart. Every piece featured has been gifted with deep intention and care. From celebrated painters to sculptors and mixed media artists, these contributors aren’t just sharing their work, they’re sharing their stories, their identity, and their commitment to making a difference. Each brushstroke, form, and concept carries a message of hope, resilience, and compassion.

“The artwork in this auction is more than beautiful, it’s personal. It’s an extension of the artist’s soul, donated with the belief that art can heal and uplift,” said Margot Anderson, Founder and CEO of The Laurel Foundation. “When someone places a bid, they’re not just purchasing a piece, they’re becoming part of something much bigger. They’re helping transform the lives of youth who are too often ignored or excluded.”

Uplifting Voices Through Art

Proceeds from the auction support The Laurel Foundation’s free, affirming programs for transgender/gender-diverse youth, at-promise youth, LGBTQ+ youth, young key populations and youth impacted by HIV/AIDS. All these communities continue to face significant social, emotional, and systemic barriers. In 2025 alone, the foundation aims to serve more than 600 youth and families, providing life-changing access to mental health support, leadership development, college and career readiness programs, and summer camps that offer belonging and joy.

This year’s auction includes work from extraordinary artists such as:

  • Laurel Holloman, internationally acclaimed painter and actress, known for her large-scale abstract expressionist works that evoke deep emotional connection through color, movement, and layered texture. Holloman’s pieces have been exhibited across Europe and the U.S., and her contributions to this year’s auction reflect her ongoing commitment to human rights and the healing power of art.
  • Leonardo E. Marmol, a Los Angeles-based painter and renowned architect whose work explores abstraction, affect, and personal identity. His series delves into heritage and assimilation, bringing forward deeply reflective narratives through gestural compositions.
  • Matt Devine, a self-taught sculptor whose signature style marries industrial strength with delicate balance. His piece, “Seasons Change Study,” speaks to order emerging from chaos — a powerful metaphor for the healing journey of the youth supported by the foundation.
  • Patrick N. Brown, whose vibrant paintings have graced galleries across California and whose practice centers themes of visibility, celebration, and community empowerment.

These artists, and many others, have donated their pieces entirely, believing in the mission and standing in solidarity with the youth The Laurel Foundation serves.

A Moment of Urgency and Opportunity

The auction comes at a pivotal moment. With rising anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, persistent HIV stigma, and growing gaps in access to care, The Laurel Foundation’s work is not just vital, it’s urgent. Many of the youth served experience social rejection, homelessness, mental health challenges, and lack of access to safe spaces. The foundation’s programs offer them something they rarely receive elsewhere: unconditional acceptance, empowerment, and tools for a brighter future.

“This is our call to action,” Anderson added. “We need the community, the art world, the philanthropists, the friends and allies to come together and bid with their hearts. This is about changing the trajectory of a young person’s life.”

Celebrate in Community

In celebration of this year’s auction, The Laurel Foundation will host a VIP Art Viewing Party on April 30, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Bonhams on Sunset in Los Angeles. Guests will enjoy a private viewing of select works, a beautifully curated charcuterie table by celebrity Chef Franco and the chance to mingle with featured artists, supporters, and leaders in the arts and advocacy communities.

Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, patrons, and those who are passionate about youth empowerment and creative expression.
