Time for the ‘Woke’ to Wake Up: Mar Vista Will Not be Marred!

LOS ANGELES

ALPERN AT LARGE-A funny thing happened en route to a Neighborhood Council takeover of the Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC) during last week's elections: the "woke" who have been screwing up Mar Vista and the Westside for years got their heads handed to them. . .for the second time in four years.

A funny thing happened to those who are just jonesing about turning Mar Vista into a horrible crud-hole with homeless encampments, human feces, drug abuse, and violent behavior becoming rampant everywhere: they got a stinging rebuke from those who have the temerity to follow and support loitering, environmental, and public safety laws.

A funny thing happened to those who turned residential neighborhoods into dangerous and traffic-laden nightmares, with a Venice Blvd. Road Diet that was as illegal and inappropriate as they come: Grassroots transportation advocates ran over those who are all about breaking the law and made sure they remained in the minority on the MVCC Board of Directors.

A funny thing happened to those intent on being gadflies to MVCC Committee and Board meetings, and intent on driving away those who have remained as the cornerstone of what Mar Vista, Westdale, North Westdale and Westside Village, as well as West and South Mar Vista residents, have fought for for years: The gadflies remain the small minority as they always deserve to be.

A funny thing happened to those "grown children" trying to smash appropriate planning, affordable housing, crime control, and REAL sustainability, and disempower kind-hearted, sober adults and professionals who are trying to fix Los Angeles from the likes of the "woke" Mayor and City Council: the children were silenced by the adults, as it always should be.

A funny thing happened to those troublemakers who've always remained the minority of the MVCC population, and who must have fallen asleep and/or downright ignored what they should have learned in school and in life: a group of doctors, engineers, and other professionals schooled them in the last elections.

A funny thing happened to those suck-ups to the CD11, the so-called "Department Of Neighborhood Empowerment" (DONE), and the Mayor, and all their stooges in Planning and other elements of City and County Government: the community slammed down those hell-bent on destroying and "crappifying" the City of Angels.

And a funny thing happened to those inappropriately utilizing the MVCC election laws and working WAY too closely with the CD11 office to take over the MVCC Board -- a Board whose monthly meetings have been abandoned by the CD11 Councilmember who, since re-election, has been thwarting appropriate laws and ethics supported by the MVCC and other Westside constituents who once totally adored him and got him re-elected.

And a funny thing happened to the CD11 and "Woke" slate, who tried as they did two years ago to perform a coup d'état against a compassionate, law-abiding, kind Mar Vista community, as well as its representative MVCC and all their constituents: They lost. And they lost HARD, because the real community leaders put their heart and soul into defeating those who deserved defeat.

There is hope, my fellow Angelenos, for those citizens who stand up as adults and represent the majority of our fellow constituents and neighbors against those who have behaved and continue to behave like children – those who continue to thwart the law, all sorts of civility and City ethics: The adults will win, and the gadflies who are in the distinct minority will lose.

And one last thing: The attack on the City of the Angels, from both the questionable "constituents" obeying and being the pawns of those tyrants on the City Council and from Downtown, is anything BUT funny.

We MUST fight and win, at any cost -- for both ourselves and for future generations -- to make sure Los Angeles will truly remain the City of the Angels.
