When Did LAPD Stop Returning Phone Calls?

LOS ANGELES

BUDGET ADVOCATES---The Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates have been reaching out to the executive office of the LAPd for more than two months … attempting to set up our annual Charter-authorized meeting to discuss their 2018-19 budget.

It is no secret that the LAPD gets the largest allocation of funds of all departments in our city. As a matter of practice, the Budget Advocates and LAPD meet every year. So the question is: why no response this year?

Why won't they return a call to arrange a meeting?

The NCBA's are baffled at the lack of response.

Budget Advocates are City Charter mandated. We advise the mayor and elected officials on budget items, per the charter.

Hopefully, Chief Beck reads CityWatch and will give us a call. Our police department has enough on its plate without having to deal with the loss of support of LA’s 100-plus neighborhoods.

(Jay Handal is Co-Chair of the NC Budget Advocates, treasurer of the West Los Angeles NC and Los Angeles Police Commission Hearing Examiner. Mr. Handal’s views are his own.)
