The Mayor's Next Chief of Staff is ...

ARCHIVE

MAILANDER MUSINGS - ... of course unknown. But I hear six names in the discussion to locate a successor to Jeffrey Carr.

Were the past prologue, successful schools program leader Marshall Tuck may most resemble the surprise Villaraigosa appointment of Carr a little less than two years ago. However, there are many formidable others under consideration.

I hear Richard Katz, a very likeable, affable fellow, is being considered for the post. Marcus Allen as well.

And very naturally the Mayor's two deputy chiefs of staff, Matt Szabo and Janelle Erickson, would be in the derby for the job.

Not to mention Larry Frank, one of the present administration's top loyalists, who is also said to be in the running.

Whomever takes the top slot figures to be someone widely esteemed throughout the City.

"If City Hall doesn’t like the chief of staff, the City doesn't move," a source close to Mayor Villaraigosa told me this afternoon.

If you owe any of the above a thank you note, now's the time to get it off.
