The food Marketing Institute reports that there are 38,718 food items in the average grocery store. This can make it very complicated to get what you need and avoid what you don't need. The best advice I can give to you food shoppers is to plan ahead! Make lists, and stay on the outside perimeter of the grocery store as much as possible. There you will find the freshest, healthiest, and often times, least expensive food items.
In the middle of the store is where the most processed foods are including the junk food. Most people have thrown out veggies at some point due to oldness. Take these old veggies and throw them into a pot with a couple of bay leaves, pepper, and a quart of organic vegetable stock and you can have soup for at least a few days. Also, have a plan for the week. Make food in bulk so you have food to eat for the week. Spend a little up front on glass tupperware to store your food and to avoid leeching of plastic containers into your food.
