Spending by independent expenditure committees for the March 5 election has exceeded $1 million,
fueled primarily by support for Los Angeles school board candidates, the city Ethics Commission reported.
There has been some independent expenditures made in the races for mayor and City Council, and that is expected to grow during these final weeks leading up to the election.
The Coalition for School Reform has spent more than $404,000 on behalf of school board President Monica Garcia, on Antonio Sanchez, who is vying for the open District 6 seat, and Kate Anderson, who is challenging board member Steve Zimmer. (Read more)
