Marjorie Taylor Greene Dreams Of Red States Oppressing LGBTQ+ People After National Divorce

GUEST COMMENTARY - Over Presidents’ Day weekend, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) came under fire for calling for a “national divorce” in comments many people interpreted as calling for the secession of red states from the United States of America.

She has since laid out more what life would be like in Red America if it separated from Blue America, and many of the benefits of secession center around the oppression of LGBTQ+ people.

“We need a national divorce,” Greene tweeted over the weekend. “We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government.”

“Everyone I talk to says this. From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s traitorous America Last policies, we are done.”

In a separate tweet, she demanded that people “impeach Biden or give us a national divorce.”

In a thread published on Tuesday, Greene walked back her original comments to make it sound like she was just talking about expanding states’ rights. In the thread, she explained what the differences between red and blue states would be after the “national divorce.”

“In red states, there would be varying degrees of more traditional public education, charter schools, homeschooling, technical training, and college and universities,” she wrote. “Red states would likely ban all gender lies and confusing theories, Drag Queen story times, and LGBTQ indoctrinating teachers, and China’s money and influence in our education while blue states could have government controlled gender transition schools.”

She said that red states “would bring back prayer in school and require every student to stand for the national anthem and pledge of allegiance” since they wouldn’t have to worry about free speech or freedom of religion anymore.

“Blue states would likely eliminate the anthem and pledge all together and replace them with anthems and pledges to identity ideologies like the Trans flag and BLM,” she wrote. “Perhaps some blue states would even likely have government funded Antifa communists training schools.”

She also wrote quite a bit about how her vision for Red America would be oppressive to transgender people.

“Red states would ban biological males from all girls/women’s sports and all girls/women’s places of privacy,” she wrote. “Red states would maintain the truth that there are only two genders and would require the biological identity of each person’s gender on their identification, not how the person identifies. If you choose to identify differently you can, but if you want it on legal record you’ll need to move to a blue state in order to be legally free to lie to yourself and others about your identity.”

She then brought up sex toys, saying that Walmart in Red America wouldn’t be allowed to “place sex toys next to children’s toothbrushes,” a reference to a complaint she had last year with the retail chain.

“Imagine if America decided to just go ahead and have a national divorce,” she concluded. “Hollywood elites and celebrities and all the brainwashed leftists women who watch the nasty women on the View, men who identify as women, and Democrat voters who suffer from the lifelong debilitating disease Trump Derangement Syndrome they caught from CNN wouldn’t have to see much less tolerate deplorables anymore.”

“Then Americans could choose which way, left or right, provides them with the best quality of life, and we don’t have to argue with one another anymore,” Greene wrote. “I am starting to feel like it’s the right thing to do for everyone.”

On Fox News, Greene said that her calls for a “National Divorce” is part of a “much bigger movement than most people in Washington even realize,” coding “the amount of likes and retweets that those tweets got.”

“Congresswoman Greene’s comments are sick, divisive, and alarming to hear from a member of the House Oversight and Homeland Security Committees,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement.

“Congressional Republicans have an obligation to say clearly whether they agree with Congresswoman Greene’s calls to dissolve the union or condemn her vile push to further divide our nation.”

Greene represents Georgia’s Fourteenth Congressional District. Georgia voted for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, meaning that her own state could be considered one of the blue states she attacked in her tweet thread.
