Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s State of the City speech this week could be overshadowed by images of city workers protesting outside the event.
This year’s State of the City speech comes amid ongoing negotiations between the city and union leaders, and four days after the union representing 10,000 custodians, tree trimmers and other workers voted to authorize a strike.
Coral Itzcalli, spokeswoman for Service Employees International Union Local 721, the union threatening to strike, wouldn’t comment Sunday when asked if workers would gather outside Tuesday’s event.
“The workers are very aware of the State of the City address,” Itzcalli said. “And they are anxious to call on the mayor to fix LA.” (Read the rest.)
