NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS-Metro posted a terrific overview of their January 15 meeting at the SAG/AFTRA Building at Wilshire and Curson. The gathering was an opportunity for Metro officials to present what will happen along the construction route in the coming months – including advanced utility relocation, design-builder updates and tree removal, replacement and landscape plans.
They also presented Metro’s Project Area Discount Program to support local businesses within the project alignment, and introduced the Eat, Shop, Play campaign that will be launched later this year.
According to Metro:
Attendees also watched a new animation video (below) produced by Parson Brinckerhoff — the Engineering Management Services Consultant for the project — that demonstrates the process of pile installation and street decking. The video illustrates the carefully orchestrated stages of street work when Metro eventually begins digging station sites along Wilshire Boulevard.
This video shows work that will happen over a long period of time, but it does give context to the importance of completing the deck. Once that’s done, work will continue below for about 4.5 years.
You can view the presentation below. Of note: the Detroit public parking lot at Wilshire & Detroit will close April 1. And the Metro building, former Blockbuster and former Lawrence of La Brea buildings along La Brea will be demolished shortly thereafter. Slides referencing the landscaping plans start on page 24.
