LOS ANGELES (February 22, 2013) — City Clerk June Lagmay announced today that media, candidates, and the public are welcome to attend several events related to the March 5, 2013 Primary Nominating Election.

Vote-By-Mail (VBM) Inspection and Tally
Inspection of VBM ballots (i.e., preparation for the tally) will begin on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 6:00 p.m. and will continue until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The tally of VBM ballots will begin the afternoon of March 5, 2013, Election Day. The results of this tally will not be released until after the close of polls at 8:00 p.m.
March 5th Election Day Events
Polling places open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Precinct Ballots will begin to arrive at Piper Technical Center at approximately 9:00 p.m. Precinct Ballot Inspection begins when ballots arrive and continues until the last precinct ballots arrive, between approximately 11:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. (midnight). Ballots will be tallied as they complete the inspection process.
Election Night Tours
On Election Night, a limited number of tours will be conducted by the Office of the City Clerk -Election Division that will “follow the ballots” from a polling place to the Election Division Service Center, located at Piper Technical Center. The tours will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will both begin and end at the Election Division Service Center. Tours must have a minimum of six people and each person must RSVP. Election Night Results Bulletin
Bulletins containing Election Night results will be released to the media, candidates, and the public on the 3rd floor of Piper Technical Center in Space 375. We invite you to join us on Election Night. The Election Night Results Bulletin Hotline number is (213) 978-3281. Unofficial election results for the March 5, 2013, City of Los Angeles Primary Nominating Election will be available after the close of polls on Election Day on the Election Division website at: http://clerk.lacity.org/Elections/, on Los Angeles CityView Channel 35, and in Space 375 of Piper Technical Center. Unofficial results will start being released at approximately 8:30 p.m. and will continue in approximately 45-minute intervals throughout the evening.
Official Canvass
The Official Canvass of the March 5, 2013, City of Los Angeles Primary Nominating Election begins on March 6, 2013 and continues to completion. The canvass begins at approximately 11:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. on the day following the election. From there on, the Canvass will continue daily from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 6:00 p.m. until completion. The Official Canvass includes VBM Envelope and Provisional Envelope Verification, Ballot Inspection, Write-In Ballot Canvass, Roster Reconciliation, and the One Percent Manual Tally. The Official Canvass must be completed on or before March 26, 2013.

The Office of the City Clerk - Election Division administers elections for the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District, and the Los Angeles Community College District. The City’s Primary Nominating Election will be held March 5, 2013 and the General Municipal Election will be held May 21, 2013.
