LOS ANGELES (February 19, 2013) – Los Angeles City Clerk June Lagmay reminds all potential candidates for the Council District 6 Special Election that the last day to file their nominating petitions, and supplemental petitions if required, is Monday, February 25, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
In order to appear on the May 21, 2013 Council District 6 Special Election ballot, candidates for Council District 6 must file a Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate and submit a qualifying nominating petition. When filing a nominating petition, each candidate must choose to either: a) pay a filing fee of $300 and submit valid signatures of at least 500 but no more than 1,000 qualified, registered voters within Council District 6 or b) waive the filing fee and submit valid signatures of at least 1,000 but not more than 2,000 qualified, registered voters within Council District 6.
Candidates who submitted nominating petitions early, but did not meet the required number of qualified voters’ signatures, may file a supplemental petition. However, please note that all supplemental petitions must be filed by the same final deadline as nominating petitions, which is Monday, February 25, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
To summarize, all candidates must file their nominating petitions at the Election Division during the periods as noted below:
