Good Looks for a Good Price … A $10 Haircut for the Gents

ARCHIVE

Last time I had my hair cut, I got one of those Groupons. I paid $30 and the regular price was $65. Pretty good deal, but then what? After the Groupon, if you want to go to the same place again, it’s gonna set you back waaay more. I can’t be paying $65 every time I need a haircut. Not such a deal.

So, the other day, I notice this guy I know got his hair cut – in a drastically different style. It looked really good; so, I ask him where he got it cut and how much he paid.

Turns out he paid ten bucks! I had a minute, so he told me the story of how he came upon the shop where he now gets his hair cut. Seems he really liked the hair cut he was getting from another sylist who had a shop across the street. Due to the imploding economy, her shop closed down. So, he tried the dudes across the street.

I took a trip over there last night. These guys are native Spanish speakers; but they speak enough English to know what you want and they are about the friendliest folks you could ever hope to meet.

Cuts for men are $10 and for women it’s a whopping $12. You can get a cut and blow-dry for $35. They charge $25 to blow your hair out straight. Where can I find this awesome deal, you ask? This joint is called Eli’s Beauty Salon and its located on the northern edge of Koreatown.

The salon is clean and fun. They do color too but I have no experience with it, so, I’m just not gonna speak to that. Besides, you know, I’m a “crib colorist.” Nevertheless, the cuts are fab and priced for these tough times. Most of the fi-fi places in LA are going to charge a girl at least $30 for a lousy trim. Who needs that?
