Editor’s Memo: Doomed?

WORLD WATCH

CITYWATCH TODAY—Writer-producer Michael Wilson feels the Los Angeles he knew and loved is slipping away. And he’s not sure why he … and other like Angelenos … are so doomed. The very reason we loved LA, he reasons, is because it had its own wonderful and unique pace and palm tree ‘sprawl’. Because it was NOT New York with its caverns of buildings and yardless living spaces.

He’s not alone. Thousands of others are joined in the angst. It’s hard to justify the logic … or lack thereof … to the rationale that caused all these densification fanatics to move to Los Angeles and then become engaged in a battle to change the very things that caused them to move to Los Angeles in the first place.

Michael Wilson explained his frustration and his ideas about LA’s past and future in CityWatch on Monday. But the button he pushed has nudged thousands into the fray and raised the temperature on the discussion considerably. As a result, we’re reposting his column … in Today’s CityWatch. Give it a read. Get engaged.

Speaking of LA change that’s hard to accept, we’re about to lose a fair chunk of our very soul. Faster than a Clayton Kershaw fastball, Vin Scully … the lifelong voice of the Dodgers … will have called his last game. He retires for good in just a few short days. What will be left are the memories. CityWatch offers one of them … Vin Scully reciting a piece of Field of Dreams … in Today’s CityWatch. Give it a listen. Take it with you. LA will never be the same.
